The Claymore is a sword of great weight and large to be handled with both hands to do with speed. It is a weapon of the XV and XVI used in combat on foot , designed to effectively attack armor and chain mail , sometimes causing serious bruising or fractures without pierce armor . However, their main goal was to break the ranks of armored pikemen to allow a major offensive , as cavalry charges . The grip of the Claymore half approximately one fifth or one fourth of the total weapon, were endowed with long guard and cross hawks were often topped by a spherical or round knob , which could rotate left wrist over, which allowed Quick strike blows and thrusts a respectable distance . These swords could also wield with one hand on the handle and one on the first third , which had no edge , so that allowed proper handling at close range.
